The FirstRand Empowerment Foundation (FREF), established in 2005, is a cornerstone of FirstRand Limited’s commitment to broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) in South Africa. What the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Undergraduate Bursary
The FirstRand Empowerment Foundation bursary provides comprehensive support to help you focus on your studies:
- Tuition Fees: Full coverage of your academic fees.
- Learning Resources: Access to necessary study materials.
- Computer: Provision of a computer for first-year students.
- Accommodation and Meals: Assistance with living expenses.
- Monthly Stipend: Financial support for personal expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Undergraduate Bursary South Africa 2025, you must meet the following requirements:
- Citizenship: South African citizen.
- B-BBEE Status: Black as defined by the B-BBEE Act.
- Age: Not older than 21 years in your first year of study.
- Education:
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric within the last 3 years (those who completed Matric more than 3 years ago are not eligible).
- Achieved a minimum of Level 5 for Mathematics in Matric.
- Strong academic record.
- Field of Study: Intend to study full-time towards a first undergraduate degree in one of the fields listed above in 2025.
- University Admission: Applied for and provisionally admitted to study at a public university in South Africa. Check out our University Bursaries for options.
- Financial Need: Combined gross family income NOT more than R600,000 per annum.
How to Apply for FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Undergraduate Bursary
Step 1: Prepare Your Documents
Ensure you have clear copies of the following supporting documents:
- Recent Photograph: Head and shoulders.
- South African ID Document: Certified copy.
- Academic Records:
- Grade 11 final results and Matric June results (if currently in Matric).
- Matric certificate (if completed Matric).
- University Acceptance Letter: Proof of provisional acceptance for 2025.
- Proof of Household Income:
- Latest payslips if employed.
- Affidavit if unemployed.
- Affidavit stating annual income if self-employed.
- Most recent audited financial statement or 3 months’ bank statements if owning a business.
- SASSA letter stating grants received, if applicable.
- Parents’ Death Certificates: If applicable.
- Child Support Documentation:
- Letter from the court stating child support amounts if parents are divorced.
- Affidavit from the parent stating the child support amount received if parents are separated.
