About Online Bursaries

I’m a South African who went through the bursary application process the hard way — spending hours across dozens of websites, missing deadlines because information was scattered, outdated, or buried behind contact forms. I built Online Bursaries in 2024 because I couldn’t find a single reliable, free, no-login platform that kept listings current and explained what each bursary actually required. That gap is the reason this site exists.

Every listing on this platform is sourced directly from the official bursary provider’s website — the funder’s own portal, their careers page, or their published press releases. When closing dates change, fields of study are updated, or new programmes are announced, I update the listing. When a bursary closes and hasn’t been renewed, I archive it rather than leave stale information up. I check each provider’s official page before publishing and note the date each listing was last verified.

I’m not a financial adviser, a bank, or affiliated with any of the bursary providers listed here. What I am is someone who spent years figuring out how South Africa’s bursary system works — which funders are serious, which deadlines matter, what documents you actually need, and how to write a motivational letter that gets read. This site is the resource I wish had existed when I was applying. Everything here is free, nothing requires a login, and there is no premium tier — just updated, practical information for South African students who need funding.
